The appearance of chain grate is like that of belt conveyor. Its operation process is that the coal falls from the coal hopper to the front of the grate by its own weight, moves slowly from front to back with the grate, and enters the furnace through the coal ram. The height of coal ram can be adjusted freely to control the thickness of coal seam. The air is introduced from the partition air supply room under the grate and intersects with the coal seam movement direction.

The coal is heated by radiation in the furnace, and the preheating, drying, ignition and combustion are completed successively until it is burnt out. The ash moves to the rear with the grate, passes through the slag baffle (commonly known as Eagle Iron), falls into the rear water-cooled ash hopper, and is discharged by the slag remover.

The crossbeam grate is suitable for boilers with evaporation capacity of 20~40t/h or more. The main difference between its structure and the chain grate is that it uses many rigid beams. The grate plate is installed in the corresponding groove of the beam, and the beam is fixed on the drive chain. The drive chain is generally two (when the grate is very wide, several can be installed), driven by the sprocket installed on the front axle (driving shaft).

The structure is rigid, the grate plate is not heated, and the beam and chain are not heated, so it is safe and durable; The grate area can be large, the resistance is small, the air volume is evenly distributed, and the amount of coal and air leakage during operation is small.
